Change Your Attitude Because Life Isn't Fair

I believe we live in a time to get when the getting's good. We are a sue-happy, one-upping, competitive world, that will leave us all in a puddle of shame the day we actually lose or not get what we want. It's a harsh reality for us to realize that losing, that not getting what we want, that actually taking a knee once in awhile is something that is good for us. What if life isn't about getting to eat our dessert before our peas? Or getting whatever toy we want off the shelf at the store? What if we were meant to have grit because of our loses, not a puddle of emotions when we don't get our way?

There are stories throughout the Bible about life not being fair. Life was never meant to be fair. We are meant to grow and to find our way in the Way. A popular verse is Romans 12:2 -

"Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect."

It can be so easy to get wrapped up in what the world values and forget about what this "change" in our life signifies. But God tells us not to conform to the ways of this world, and to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Only He can bring the transformation. We serve a God of humility and of grace. In our society, we get the mindset of earning and keeping pride high. God, however, grants us grace and forgiveness, and there is nothing we can do to earn our way to heaven We simply confess to Him and accept His invitation to be the ruler in our lives. Serving a humble, forgiving God means we are to be humble and quick to forgive.

The way we follow is that of Christ. Philippians 2:5-8 says:

"You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus had. Though He was God, He did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, He gave up His divine privileges, and He was born as a human being. When He appeared in human form, He humbled Himself in obedience to God and died a criminal's death on a cross."

If anyone knew about an unfair life, it was Jesus. Yet He had the mindset of eternity and where our rewards really sit. When life doesn't seem fair, and you want revenge, or you want to get ahead, remember the life of Christ. Think about what really matters in your life, as that will tell you where you place your rewards. Have a mindset of eternity. Change your attitude because life isn't fair.

Scripture to Read:
Matthew 18:21-35, Philippians 2:5-8

Questions to ask:
How can the world's view be so opposite of Philippians 2:5-8?
How can we gain renewed minds and allow Christ to transform us in a world that can be so different from how Christ lived?
How is forgiveness a huge part of this concept?
